POLKTON, N.C. — No, not again.
Another misguided female prison worker has been arrested for helping yet another convicted murderer escape prison, this time in the state of North Carolina.
Kendra Lynette Miller, 33, an employee with the Brown Creek Correctional Institution in Polkton, N.C., has been charged with having sex with an inmate, providing an electronic device to an inmate, harboring a fugitive and aiding and abetting a fugitive, the New York Daily News reports.
Miller’s bond is set at $500,000.
Miller had been a food service worker at Brown Creek since December, the Department of Public Safety said.
The accused murderer, Kristopher McNeil, 29, has been serving a 14-year sentence for second-degree murder. He scaled the wall of Brown Creek Correctional Institution in Polkton early Sunday.
Fortunately, his escape was very short-lived. According to police reports, residents in town recognized his face from published reports of his escape and notified law enforcement. They arrested him without incident as he strolled along Highway 52 near the Davidson and Forsyth county line.
Instead of being returned to the same prison, McNeil has being taken to Central Prison in Raleigh, N.C., according to the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.
“We appreciate the many law enforcement agencies working closely by the department’s side working to get McNeil back in custody,” said George Solomon, director of prisons. “We are especially grateful to the citizens who called in tips and anyone who aided in his capture without anyone getting hurt.”
McNeil’s escape is particularly jarring and unsettling to Americans in wake of the famous prison break in upstate New York by two convicted murderers, Richard Matt and David Sweat, from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, N.Y. Like in the McKneil breakout, Matt and Sweat mentally and physically seduced the woman who would help them break out of prison.
Joyce Mitchell, a former employee at the Clinton facility’s tailor shop, has been charged in connection with Sweat and Matt’s escape.
