The Illinois attorney general’s office has reached a tentative settlement with one of the two Champaign County clinics the office sued for allegedly denying primary care to new patients covered by Medicaid. Under the agreement, Carle Clinic Association of Urbana would increase its Medicaid patients by 2,000 to 11,850 over the next three years. Attorney General Madigan says the deal still must be approved by a judge. Madigan says the deal doesn’t end legal action against the other clinic, Christie Clinic of Champaign. Madigan filed her antitrust lawsuit against Carle and Christie in June 2007. She accused them of agreeing to limit primary Medicaid care to push patients to higher-cost emergency rooms.
