Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan says she’s suing two charities that allegedly made false claims about their connections to law enforcement authorities and veterans groups so they could collect donations. Madigan announced the lawsuits Wednesday. One lawsuit says Texas-based Public Awareness Inc. is a company of paid professionals that misrepresented itself as the "Illinois Police Patrolman’s Association." The other says Homes For Heroes, Inc. made false claims that it was a not-for-profit formed to help people fighting the "Global War on Terror." Madigan says Homes for Heroes is owned by a Minooka resident. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
