Actress Pam Grier relates cancer victory on cable station

Television Cable 21 will feature Actress Pam Grier’s testimony concerning her victory over cancer Wednesday at 9 p.m. in “We Are Concerned” produced by Deborah Jones.

Television Cable 21 will feature Actress Pam Grier’s testimony concerning her victory over cancer Wednesday at 9 p.m. in “We Are Concerned” produced by Deborah Jones. Jones says the movie and television actress related how she overcame cancer 22 years ago when doctors had given Grier 18 months to live. Grier told her story as guest on the show during the 21st Annual Festival of the Arts held in Washington Park this summer. Jones will also feature Christopher Gardner, Chaka Khan and Tito Jackson, brother of the late King of Pop.

THE METROPOLITAN OPERA AUDITIONS are scheduled for the Metropolitan National Council Central Region finals at the Music Institute, 140 Chicago Ave. in Evanston, Sunday at 2 p.m.

eta CREATIVE ARTS FOUNDATION, 7558 S. South Chicago opens its 40th season with “The Trip” by Crystal V. Rhodes and directed by Mignon McPherson Nance that continues through November 14. The world premiere features four longtime friends who discover that they don’t know each other as the result of petty annoyances, verbal battles and unexpected secrets can be shocking.

DuSABLE MUSEUM PRESENTS An Evening with Randy Weston Friday at 6 p.m. A VIP reception will follow the performance which ends with a book and CD signing. Event takes place at the museum, 740 E. 56th Place.

CHICAGO SHAKESPEARE THEATER at Navy Pier, 800 E. Grand Ave., features “Romeo and Juliet.” Three African American actors star in principal roles: Ora Jones is Nurse, Lily Mojewu is Lady Montague and Kenn E. Head is Prince Escalus and the Apothecary. Productio runs through Nov. 21. Tickets are priced at $44-$75.
