Candace Owens is a political commentator who has built a considerable following through her work with prominent conservative groups such as PragerU, Turning Point USA, and The Daily Wire.

Owens is also a creature of right-wing hypocrisy.

The right is opposed to race-based hiring, but Owens’ quick rise in the “conservative movement” was due to her color. Because she is a Black woman, Owens was able to criticize Black politicians, Black culture, and Black social justice movements without incurring the same backlash that would have ruined her white colleagues’ public careers. However, her political takes were so offensive to her detractors that she was dubbed “the Black face of white supremacy.”

In 2019, Owens was forced to resign from Turning Point USA after telling an audience, in response to a question regarding nationalism, that Hitler’s brand of national socialism was not a problem when limited to Germany—the problem with Hitler was his global ambitions. Turning Point USA members said in a letter that their organization was beyond such thoughtless and divisive rhetoric and that Candace Owens was no longer the best person to represent them.

Owens left The Daily Wire in 2024 on bad terms after claiming Israel’s war in Gaza was genocidal. She was also accused of using antisemitic rhetoric and spreading conspiracy theories, such as that French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife, Brigitte Marie-Claude Macron, is transgender.

Without the backing of Turning Point USA and The Daily Wire, Owens became another fringe podcaster with a cult-like following attempting to stay relevant in the overcrowded realm of social media commentary.

Then on September 10, 2025, Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk was assassinated while giving an outdoor speech at Utah Valley University. Tyler Robinson, 22, shot Kirk because Robinson believed Kirk was a bigot. Robinson’s parents recognized their son’s likeness in news photographs that identified him as the shooter. Robinson’s parents urged their son to turn himself in. The following day, Robinson surrendered to authorities and was charged with murder.

Federal and state officials were unable to identify any co-conspirators.

Owens, on the other hand, denied that there was a single gunman in the Kirk shooting. On her podcast, she claimed that Jewish donors, the Israeli government, and senior members of Turning Point USA, including Kirk’s wife, were either involved in the plot to kill Kirk or in the cover-up.

Owens’ conspiracy theories brought back the national attention she craved, but the public was more skeptical of her intentions than ever before.  No one except Owens’ diehard fans took her seriously, but the more criticism she received for her unsubstantiated claims, the more conspiracy theories she dreamt up regarding Kirk’s death.

It reached a point where Kirk’s wife asked Owens to stop on national television.

Then, on the first day of Turning Point USA’s annual conference, which ran from December 18 to 21, 2025, The Daily Wire’s Ben Shapiro publicly criticized Owens for propagating lies for personal gain.

Owens’ response to Shapiro resembled Nazi propaganda.

She stated that Shapiro refers to himself as a “Talmudic Jew” and has no values outside of the Talmud. (A 2,700-page compendium of Jewish teachings written between the third and sixth centuries CE.) Owens held up August Rohling’s 1871 book The Talmudic Jew to demonstrate that she learned what was actually in the Talmud’s 2,700 pages, and she encouraged her audience to do the same so that they could understand what individuals like Shapiro believe about non-Jews.

The problem is that, according to Encyclopedia.com, Rohling was an antisemitic polemicist, and The Talmudic Jew is a compilation of deliberately corrupted quotations, imaginary statements, and forgeries against the Talmud. For over 50 years, Rohling’s book remained in print, serving as a foundation for Nazi antisemitic doctrines.

After Owens put down the book, she stated that Shapiro hates not only her but also white men and all Black people. She said if he follows the Talmud, then he thinks we’re animals and believes they have the right to sue us, take everything we own, lie to us, and force us to worship them.

She continued, “To people at home, I implore you to wake up to these people who believe they are contract lords.  I challenge Black Americans to wake up to your true history because your quarrel is not with white men.  Wake up to who … keeps us at war with one another—Christian versus Christian, Christian versus Muslim.  Wake up and learn the true history of slavery because that wasn’t exactly a white man’s sport.  Jewish people were the ones that were trading us.  Jewish people were in control of the slave trade.”

This time, Owens did not support her claims by holding up a book for the audience to see, but it is most likely Owens got her information from a book called The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews, published by the Nation of Islam in 1991. This book attempted to prove that Jews dominated the transatlantic slave trade.

However, the free encyclopedia explained, “The book’s thesis has been labeled an antisemitic canard by historians … who contend that Jews had a minimal role in the New World slave trade.  Henry Louis Gates Jr., head of the department of Afro-American studies at Harvard University, called the book ‘the bible of new antisemitism’ and added that ‘the book massively misinterprets the historical record, largely through a process of cunningly selective quotations of often reputable sources.’  Other Black academics came forward to condemn the book.  Eugene Genovese, an American historian and expert on slavery, wrote that the book rivals The Protocols of the Elders of Zion in fantasy and gross distortion.”

Owens transformed herself from the “black face of white supremacy” into the “black face of antisemitism.” Shapiro was right to condemn Owens for peddling conspiracy theories and historical falsehoods, but The Daily Wire, Turning Point USA, and PragerU need to repent for promoting her for the wrong reasons in the first place.
