With the school season right around the corner, The Salvation Army is welcoming families from Chicago to participate in the two fairs which will give school aged children health screenings, motivational talks, and essential supplies to ensure a strong academic year start. The first event will be held on Saturday, July 26 at The Salvation Army Freedom Center, which is located in the Humboldt Park area. Special immunizations and COVID-19 vaccinations, sports physicals, and routine health checks including vision and hearing tests will be conducted alongside haircuts and other services. These services will be offered through a collaboration with Rush University, RU Caring, and the Chicago Department of Public Health. To help streamline the process, parents are asked to bring children’s immunization records. Additionally, the event will offer nutritious lunches, school supplies, haircuts, a gaming truck, and a live DJ.
The second part of the event is Back to School Dream Big Bash, scheduled for August 1 at The Salvation Army Temple Corps, Located on the Near West Side. The goals of the fair is to inspire, motivate, and engage students creatively through personal vision boards and “walk the dream” carpets. Participants will also be provided with school supplies, lunch, ice cream, and information on community services. The event has no restrictions and is accessible for all families within the region to ensure students are prepared for the new school year.
Both fairs are free and open to the public. Parents, guardians, and caregivers of the children are encouraged to attend and make the most of the services and giveaways provided. These back to school events are a part of the The Salvation Army’s Chicago Region’s ongoing commitment to and focus on the health, wellness, and community support for families.
