Black Music Month Celebrates Terisa Griffin’s ‘More Than a Woman’ is More Than an Album—It’s Her Truth in Vinyl

In an exclusive interview with The Chicago Defender’s Monique Roberson (L), singer and philanthropist Terisa Griffin (R) shares the soulful inspiration behind her new album “More Than a Woman,” a collector’s vinyl release rooted in love, grief, family, and legacy.

In an exclusive sit-down with The Chicago Defender, Monique “Coach Mo” Roberson acclaimed vocalist and philanthropist Terisa Griffin opens up about the soulful legacy of her family, the harmonies that shaped her, and the new chapter she’s writing in love, loss, and music.

With a new album titled “More Than a Woman” and a collectors-edition vinyl now available, Griffin reflects on how music has always been woven into her life—from her singing father and grandmother teaching harmony to her powerhouse sisters, “The Griffin Sisters.”

“God made us all different on purpose,” she says, “so when you put it all together, we’d be the Griffin Sisters.”

The interview spans the personal and the profound. She shares stories behind her latest love songs—many inspired by her husband of 13 years—as well as the tender moments of grief she’s endured through the pandemic and beyond.

In true Terisa Griffin fashion, the music is not just performance—it’s healing. She even offers a live taste of the new album, weaving together chapters of singlehood, commitment, and the joy of rediscovering her love for her husband constantly.

With upcoming performances at City Winery locations across the country and a heart for service through her Pep Rally for Education, Griffin proves that legacy isn’t just built on stage—it’s lived out loud, in her service and in her songs.

And just when you think she’s revealed it all, Monique asks juuust the right question and she surprises us, with a personal secret that hints at what’s next for this unstoppable songstress.
