$2 Million Winning Powerball Ticket Sold In Chicago’s Logan Square

While shopping for groceries, an Illinois Lottery player picked up something that wasn’t on their grocery list – a $2 million winning Powerball ticket.

The winning ticket was purchased for the Saturday, July 13 Powerball drawing at Foodsmart, a family-owned grocery store, located at 3415 W. Diversey Ave. in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.

“We are so excited,” shared the owner of Foodsmart. “When I heard that we sold a $2 million winning Powerball ticket, I thought ‘What a lucky day for somebody… and for us, too!’”

Foodsmart’s owner added, “While we don’t know who won the $2 million prize, we have a feeling it’s one of our regular, loyal customers who stops in often.”

The lucky winner matched all five numbers, plus they added the game’s ‘Power Play’ feature to win the $2 million prize. The winning Powerball numbers in the Saturday, July 13 drawing were: 9-55-59-66-69 and a Powerball of 21.

“Within the past six months we’ve had two huge wins, because late last year we also sold a $277,777 winning scratch-off ticket,” expressed the owner of the retail shop. “It seems to me like there’s some sort of luck going on at our location!”

Foodsmart’s owner added, “The customer who won the $277,777 prize was so ecstatic, and it was her first time in our store. She mentioned she was feeling lucky that day and bought a $5 scratch-off lottery ticket. We found out right away that she won – and she’s been coming back to our store ever since.”

For selling the winning ticket, Foodsmart will receive a bonus of one percent of the prize amount.

The owner of Foodsmart mentioned, “We are a 24-hour one-stop-shop business in Logan Square and we even remain open on holidays.

We have a laundromat, grab-and-go food, and a full grocery store. We plan to use the bonus to reinvest back into our business. We always want to be adding new products and more variety for our customers. After our last lottery win, we used our bonus to add in a new deli.”

In total, over 13,000 winning tickets were purchased by Illinois Lottery players for the July 13 Powerball drawing. So far this year, more than 1.8 million winning Powerball tickets have been sold, with total prizes amounting to more than $18.3 million for Illinois Lottery players.

The Illinois Lottery encourages all lucky winners to write their name on the back of their ticket and keep it in a safe place until they’re ready to claim their prize. Winners have one year from the date of the winning draw to claim their prize.
Powerball tickets are $2 each, and players have the option to add the Powerplay for an additional $1 for the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes.

Powerball drawings are conducted Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday evenings at 9:59 PM CT.
