HEERENVEEN, Netherlands (AP) — Two-time Olympic speedskating champion
Shani Davis has won his second straight World Cup race, edging rival Simon
Kuipers of the Netherlands in the 1,500 meters.
Davis won in 1 minute, 45.04 seconds in a season-opening meet Saturday.
Kuipers finished 0.44 seconds behind the American. Dutchman Mark Tuitert
was third in 1:45.95.
German sprint specialist Jenny Wolf also won her second straight race. She
beat Margot Boer of the Netherlands and Nao Kodaira of Japan in the 500.
In the 3,000, Stephanie Beckert of Germany won in 4:04.38, ahead of
Canadians Cindy Klassen and Kristina Groves.
The meet runs through Sunday before heading to Berlin next week.
