Hosted by Chicago comedian, Dario Durham, and Jordan-born cook, Sara Faddah, The 77 Flavors Podcast discusses heritage and food in all of Chicago’s 77 historic neighborhoods. The couple hopes their podcast helps to change the perception of Chicago neighborhoods particularly those on the south and west sides of Chicago.
Armed with audio equipment and an idea, the couple began the weekly podcast after a short conversation about working together. Each week, the couple visits a Chicago neighborhood restaurant to enjoy a local meal and learn about the history of the area to share with their audience. They interview business owners and have local guests on the show each week. Since itsy launch, the podcast has expanded to two shows a week. The couple hopes to have a television show in the future.
In addition to sharing the stories of Chicago neighborhoods through food, these creatives help to support the local restaurants in the communities by encouraging their audience to support and patronize small businesses in the city.
The Chicago Defender spoke with the couple about the 77 Flavors podcast and the importance of changing the narrative surrounding Chicago neighborhoods.
