Seven children were taken to hospitals for observation after a school bus hit a median on the Near West Side this morning.
The bus hit the median around 8:05 a.m. at Hoyne Avenue and Madison Street as it swerved to avoid another vehicle, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan.
The seven children were taken in good-to-fair condition to hospitals, three to Rush University Medical Center, two to Stroger Hospital and two to the University of Illinois at Chicago Medical Center, according to the Chicago Fire Department’s media office.
The children were being taken for evaluation and did not appear to have suffered any injuries, Sullivan said.
The driver declined medical treatment, according to the Fire Department.
The bus sustained major damage, officials said.
