Over the weekend, seven women were found dead in the Northwest part of Indiana. A man has confessed and is in custody.

At a news conference on Monday, Hammond police said that Darren Deon Vann, 43, gave police information on where they could locate the bodies after he was arrested on Friday.

“During his initial arrest in the city of Gary, Mr. Vann told Hammond police officers at the scene that he had ‘messed up’ by committing the crime in Hammond and was surprised at how quickly he was located after the incident,” NBC Chicago quotes Hammond Police Chief John Doughty saying.

A woman was found strangled to death at a Motel 6 on the 3800 block of 179th St. in Hammond. The 19-year-old victim, Afrika Hardy, had met Vann online and the two set up to meet. Her body was discovered Friday night and the other three on Sunday night.

When looking into Hardy’s death, local authorities were able to search a home on 49th Avenue in Gary. Vann was then taken into custody. During questioning, Vann revealed more information about six other women who are dead. So far, three victims have been identified: Anith Jones, 35, Teairra Batey, 28, and Christine Williams, 36. Vann has been a registered sex offender in Texas since 2009.
