BALTIMORE — The state attorney of Baltimore said she is charging six Baltimore police officers with homicide in the death of Freddie Gray, stating in a press conference that the arresting officers did not follow proper procedure in the apprehension of Gray, did not secure him inside the police wagon, assaulted him and failed to get Gray medical attention when he desperately needed it.
The state attorney also said they had no probable cause to arrest him in the first place.
“They illegally arrested Mr. Gray,” said state attorney Marilyn J. Mosby.
Gray’s death was caused by the officers deliberate acts as well as gross negligence, Mosby said. The medical examiner’s office ruled Mosby’s death a homicide.
Mosby is charging six officers with various felonies including 2nd degree murder, voluntary manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, assault, false imprisonment and negligence. A warrant has been issued for their arrests.
