The 43rd Street edition of Bronzeville Summer Nights comes to the neighborhood Aug. 20. with trolley rides, in-store specials, and live entertainment.
Bronzeville Summer Nights is a new collaboration built on years of combining Bronzeville Nights and Bronzeville Trolley Tours. The partnership’s goal is to ignite and stimulate the community with art, music, food, local performances, and the other aspects that make up the area’s strong culture.
Throughout Chicago history, Bronzeville has been a hub for African-American music, literature, fine art, and theater. This series is tied to that history, incorporating the area’s contemporary initiatives.
The 43rd Street edition is the third part of the series. The tour will be from 6 – 9 p.m. with rotating trolley stops at each gallery every 30 minutes.
To make the night possible, a number of local businesses participate in the festivities.
Honey 1 BBQ
Honey 1bbq, located at 746 E. 43rd St., is what some fans call “the best barbecue on the South Side.” Known for its quick service and affordable prices as well as its acclaimed rib tips, the spot is new to Bronzeville, coming from Bucktown just last year.
Small Shop Cycles & Service
Small Shop Cycles & Service, at 4250 S. Cottage Grove, is the epitome of your friendly neighborhood bike shop. It serves Bronzeville and Kenwood, both selling and servicing bicycles Wednesday through Monday.
New Age Chicago Furniture Co.
New Age Chicago Furniture Co. is located at 4238 S. Cottage Grove. The fourth generation family operated furniture prides itself on its quality furniture, low prices, and friendly service.
Some Like It Black
Some Like It Black one of the newest additions to the Bronzeville business community. Located at 4259 S Cottage Grove Ave, the creative arts bar moved from a South Loop location and has added a café with 100% organic, non-GMO food and drinks.
Fort Smith Designer and Clothing Boutique
Fort Smith Designer and Clothing Boutique is located at 1007 E. 43rd St. The boutique sells clothing and jewelry decorated with wood beads, plated parts, Austrian crystals, shells, and other one-of-a-kind treasures.
Café on the Grove
Café on the Grove is a neighborhood-focused cafe with fresh, homemade cuisine. Located at 4317 S. Cottage Grove, it offers an array of healthy breakfast and lunch options seven days a week.
RocNStyles Beauty Loft
RocNStyles Beauty Loft is a salon located at 1009 E. 43rd St. Master stylist and the salon owner Roxanne Dunigan is not only a “weave guru,” but also an expert in working with natural hair.
Norman’s Bistro
Norman’s Bistro is at 1001 E. 43rd St. and offers an American Creole Cuisine with a Brazilian Flair. The restaurant is open five days a week with dinner service starting at 3:00 p.m.
The Connection
Located at 4321 S Cottage Grove Ave, the Connection is an event facility located in Bronzeville.

Blanc Gallery
Blanc Gallery, located at 4445 South King Drive, is now showcasing Retracing the Steps Before, which is the third installment of artists David Anthony Geary’s series which honors of the Centennial Anniversary of the Great Migration. Geary’s work chronicles the historic exodus of black southerners to Chicago, through re-interpreting images from the time period.
Bronzeville Artist Lofts
Bronzeville Artist Lofts at 436 E. 47th St. is an artist live-work space is situated in the heart of the neighborhood.
Faie African Art
Faie African Art, located at 1005 E. 43rd St, showcases outstanding pieces from the Western, Eastern, Central, and Southern Regions of Africa.
Gallery Guichard Fine Art Gallery
Gallery Guichard Fine Art Gallery at 436 E. 47th St. is a modern and contemporary art gallery that features the art of multicultural artists from around the world specializing in the art of Art of the African Diaspora.
Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center
Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center is located at 1060 E. 47th St. It is a nonprofit serving youth in the Kenwood/Oakland, Woodlawn, and Bronzeville neighborhoods that has curriculum and services for adults and families.
South Side Community Art Center
South Side Community Art Center is located at 3831 S. Michigan Ave. Its mission is to preserve, conserve, and promote the legacy and future of African-American art and artists while educating the community on the value of art and culture.
