Get ready, set and prepare to enjoy some great HBCU college football!  A week of sports and academic-themed festivities leading up to the 19th Annual Chicago Football Classic (CFC), which will take place on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. kick-off at Soldier Field.

This event is presented by corporate partners Sherman Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Skokie and BMO Harris Bank.

This sports uprising features a no-holds-barred football gridiron grudge-match between two well-known Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), The Panthers of Clark-Atlanta University vs. the Marauders of Central State University. The Classic will also host a spirited and exciting roster of pre-game events, while continuing its mission to provide Chicagoland high school students with opportunities to pursue a higher education at these historic and legendary school institutions.

In honor of this event and in recognition of the strong, enduring educational legacies of both the Chicago Football Classic Scholarship Fund, Inc. and the United Negro College Fund (UNCF),  we are proud to announce that Mayor Rahm Emanuel has designated September 4-11 2016 as “Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week in Chicago.”

CFC Co-founders Larry Huggins, Everett and Tim Rand jointly express the organization’s appreciation. “The Chicago Football ClassicScholarship Fund Inc. wishes to thank Mayor Emanuel, the City of Chicago for this outstanding designation honoring HBCUs, as well as his unwavering support and assistance in promoting the Classic’s work to increase the numbers of Chicago students attending these phenomenal and culturally significant HBCUs.”

Also on Saturday, the  award-winning South Shore Drill Team and Performing Arts Ensemble will perform a dazzling, precision acrobatic routine at halftime and will join Honorary CFC Chairman Mayor Emanuel, other elected officials, and three of Chicago’s aldermen who are serving as this year’s Official Honorary City Co-Chairs: 8th Ward Ald. Michelle A. Harris; 34th Ward Ald. Carrie Austin and 27th Ward Ald. Walter Burnett.

This Chicago Football Classic Scholarship Fund Inc. program is designed to increase urban and inner-city kids’ interest in attending HBCU colleges, by reinforcing the concept of pursuing educational excellence at all school levels. Further, the CFC Scholarship Fund expands awareness to needy families of the large array of grants and other financial assistance available to promising kids in underserved communities and neighborhoods throughout the city.

In addition to emphasizing to young people constructive values such as hard work, positive behavior and discipline, the Classic hosts a variety of pre-game events:
