Ahead of Hillary Clinton‘s sweeping and historic primary win, Bill Clinton faced a tough critic on the campaign trail who condemned his 1994 Crime Bill, which he signed into law as president.
While the former president and his wife, who on Tuesday declared herself the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, enjoy the support of African-American voters, his signature crime bill has put hundreds of thousands of African-Americans behind bars, presiding over the largest increase in federal and state prison inmates of any presidency in American history.
Hillary Clinton has apologized for the measure and supports President Obama’s criminal justice reform efforts. For his part, Bill Clinton has sort of apologized for the bill, which is why an activist shouted him down recently during a campaign stop in Watts, a predominantly Hispanic and Black neighborhood in South Los Angeles, reports Mic:
Clinton was taking a photo with two attendees, both black men, when an unidentified woman shouted from a short distance away:
“Hey Clinton, fuck you! Our people are still in jail from your crime bill!”
