DKNY Women's - Runway - Fall 2016 New York Fashion Week: The Shows

Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow the duo behind the high-end streetwear brand, Public School, are quickly catapulting into the fashion stratosphere. From winning the Men’s Wear Designer of the Year Award from the CFDA Fashion Awards in June 2014 (and hoping for a repeat this year) as well as serving as the creative directors for DKNY, the have been mavens in the fashion industry.

On May 24th, the fashion duo will be honored for their creative work at the Gordon Parks Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street. Other creative influencers and multitasking honorees include Janelle Monae, who will be receiving an award for her next project with actresses Taraji P. Henson and Octavia Spencer in the upcoming film “Hidden Figures,” which is based on Margot Lee Shetterly’s book “Hidden Figures: The Story of the African-American Women Who Helped Win the Space Race.”

These three honorees embody the spirit of Gordon Parks, the self-taught photographer who excelled in multiple fields as a filmmaker, composer and author. He broke barriers and laid pathways in photojournalism for Blacks by being Life Magazine’s first African-American staff photographer and writer.
