DC is getting ready to welcome a Black female superhero to one of its most popular shows.
Wednesday night will mark Vixen’s big debut on “Arrow.” For those that don’t know, Vixen is a woman from Africa named Mari McCabe; she wears a mystical totem that gives her all the powers of the animal kingdom.
Vixen is DC’s first Black female super hero. She came out in Action Comics #521 back in July 1981. In the comics, Mari eventually moves the United States, where she was a model by day and a member of the Justice League in her downtime. Her story is a bit different in the Arrowverse, though.
Either way, she’s fierce. In every sense of the word. She is not one to be trifled with.
Although this will be Vixen’s first appearance on “Arrow,” it’s actually an old role for Megalyn. She voiced Vixen in the CW Seed short-run cartoon “Vixen,” where she also teamed up with Green Arrow and The Flash last year.
On this week’s episode of “Arrow,” titled “Taken,” Team Arrow calls her in to help out with a crisis that they can’t handle on their own. This is just a guest spot on “Arrow” for now, but her cartoon has been greenlit for a second season.
Tune in to The CW on Wednesday at 8 p.m. to see how Vixen, played by Megalyn Echikunwoke, fights the forces of evil. Catch up on her cartoon on CW Seed
