There is a large percentage of the urban electorate, if not the vast majority, that firmly believes there are forces deliberately instituting measures and machinations in order to make it harder for minorities to vote.

The alleged purposeful infringement upon what we are told is an inalienable right to participate in the American democratic process is why forums such as Atlanta City Councilman Michael Julian Bond are paramount.

According to the report delivered to the Atlanta Daily World, Bond will host a voter education and voter registration drive on Saturday, Jan. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fountain of Hope, 829 Hollywood Rd. in Atlanta.

According to Bond, the event will also provide services to those in need.  Fountain of Hope will distribute groceries to residents, as well as offer free lunch, haircuts, hair styling, clothes, and a host of other items to those who are a little less fortunate.

Pastor Alvin Hall, operations manager for Fountain of Hope, estimates that 500 to 1,000 citizens will be on site.

For more information, please call Councilman Bond’s office at (404) 330-6770.
