Ty Wansley, a former STL resident who spent 35 years as a radio-show host in Chicago, died Wednesday at the age of 63.

Wansley lived in Hillsboro and attended Jefferson Community College before starting his radio career in 1972 in St. Louis, where he worked at KWK, KATZ, KKSS and KMJM before moving to Chicago in 1980, said Frank Absher, head of the St. Louis Media Foundation.

Chicago Tribune media columnist Robert Feder reported that Wansley died of congestive heart failure.

Wansley most recently was news and information director for three urban-contemporary iHeartMedia stations in the Chicago area, where he anchored news and public affairs shows.

Our condolences to his family, friends and fans. Funeral services to be announced.
