During the first week of January, former Republican governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee announced he was leaving his post at Fox News to consider a 2016 Presidential run. If he follows through with the bid, he’s already checked targeting a high-profile rapper off of his to-do list. Huckabee is slated to release the book, God, Guns, Grits, and Gravy, on January 20, and in an excerpt published by U.S. News, the recently retired Fox pundit took aim at Jay Z and Beyonce with the following statement:
“Beyoncé is incredibly talented—gifted, in fact. She has an exceptional set of pipes and can actually sing. She is a terrific dancer—without the explicit moves best left for the privacy of her bedroom. Jay Z is a very shrewd businessman, but I wonder: Does it occur to him that he is arguably crossing the line from husband to pimp by exploiting his wife as a sex object?”
The comments come after a 2013 inquiry into Jay Z and Beyonce’s anniversary trip to Cuba by fellow GOP members Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Mario Diaz-Balart. The trip was later declared legal by the U.S. Treasury Department, and Jay Z voiced disdain for politicians in the song ‘Open Letter.’
Beyonce has previously self-identified as a feminist, and addressed claims similar to Huckabee’s on the song ‘Bow Down’ by singing, ‘I took some time to live my life / But don’t think I’m just his little wife.’
