Brinsley6

Suspected NYPD cop killer Ismaaiyl Brinsley had a long criminal history in greater Atlanta before he shot a relative and then traveled to New York and executed two officers. He especially racked up a thick rap sheet in Fulton, Cobb and DeKalb cou nties, where he was arrested 15 times out of the 19 times he spent time in jail.

In fact, investigators from the U.S. Department of Justice report that Brinsley bought the gun he used to shoot his ex-girlfriend in Baltimore and the two officers here in Atlanta. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) is currently questioning the pawn shop in the Atlanta metro region that sold Brinsley the gun.

The New York Police Department’s commissioner said Brinsley, 28, who offed himself after he shot two officers while they sat in their patrol cars, was believed to have last lived in Georgia.

In fact, Brinsley had active warrants out of Cobb County, WSBTV states. Brinsley had warrants for probation violation related to theft, firearm possession and criminal property damage charges.

Brinsley was thrown into the Fulton County Jail nine times between 2004 and 2010. The offenses include simple battery, disorderly conduct, theft by shoplifting, criminal trespass, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a knife during the commision of a felony, possession of marijuana, simple battery, and terroristic threats.

Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were shot at point-blank range while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn Saturday, The New York Daily News reported.

Channel 2 Action News learned the gunman was arrested at least eight times over the course of six years. He had 19 arrests across three states.

Charges against him ranged from battery to theft to carrying a concealed weapon.  Now, residents in Union City have learned the man accused of ambushing and murdering the officers was their neighbor.
