A popular California-based rapper was shot and killed inside a McDonald’s outside of Los Angeles during rush-hour traffic,
Rapper Big Paybacc was shot and killed Thursday inside a McDonald’s in Palmdale, Calif., about an hour northeast of Los Angeles, the police reports.
Paybacc, whose real name was Habeeb Ameer Zekajj, 38, was reportedly eating lunch at the McDonald’s during the busiest part of the day when, out of nowhere, a man walked in, shot the rapper once, and left. The rapper died on the scene.
There were approximately 20 other people were inside the fast food store at the time of the shooting.
Authorities told MyFoxLA.com that this was not a random killing.
Lt. John Corina, with Sheriffs Homicide Bureau says, “Witnesses say he walked in, walked up to the victim and shot him. He then ran out of McDonald’s.”
The killer is on the run. Investigators say the suspect is an African-American male and was last seen wearing a grey hoodie and dark pants.
Paybacc’s girlfriend, Jessica Jefferson, said she and the rapper had been dating for about eight months and were about to move in together.
LA County Sheriff’s Department Lt. John Corina told reporters, “There was no altercation. This guy just walked in through one door, shot him and left out another door. So it looked like something personal. He had something against this individual. It wasn’t like he shot up the McDonald’s. He just shot him and left.”
The girlfriend told reporters he left behind three children.
