CHICAGO (AP) _ Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn has announced $14.4 million in investments for park development and storm water management on Chicago’s south side and south suburbs.

Projects include a $2.1 million grant for an expansion of the Sandridge Community Center in Calumet City, a $2 million grant for the Dolton Park District to expand and renovate its main field house, and $200,000 to improve streets and sewers throughout Evergreen Park.

The governor says the investments will boost the well-being of communities.

The grants are partly funded through a $31 billion capital construction program passed by the Legislature in 2009. The package was largely paid for through legalizing video poker, raising taxes on candy, liquor and beauty products and privatizing the Illinois lottery.
