Earlier this summer, a Black couple from Homewood, Ill. began construction on the new storefront that would become their frozen yogurt shop. Josette and Kevin Fourte became the first Black couple to open up a Forever Yogurt franchise and their grand opening is Sat. Sept. 6.

The business owners say they are giving the first 50 customers in line free frozen yogurt for a year.  The store, 18324 Governors Hwy, will be open during normal business hours, but beginning at 3 p.m. the first 50 people in line will receive certificates for up to $5 in frozen yogurt that they can use once a week for a full year. The next 50 people will get up to $5 in frozen yogurt that they can use that day only.  Their location offers customers 14 different flavors to choose from and 54 different toppings.

The store officially opened Aug. 7 and the couple said the community has welcomed them.

“Things have been going well and we’re very blessed,” said Josette Fourte. “People are excited that there is a self-serve frozen yogurt store in the area and they are glad to have the frozen yogurt establishment in the area because there aren’t any really.”

She said they also hired from within the community.

For those who don’t typically enjoy yogurt, they might be surprised when they try frozen yogurt, said Josette, who dislikes yogurt, but loves the frozen dessert. It’s also for those seeking a healthy alternative to ice cream, she said.

Keven encourages everyone to come out and support them because they’ll enjoy the experience.

“It’s  a good experience when you come to a Forever Yogurt and it’s a fun experience,” he said.
