CHICAGO (AP) – Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has met with law enforcement and school officials to talk about the city’s violence problem.
The Monday morning meeting comes three days after Chicago’s latest high-profile killing: an 11-year-old girl shot dead at a sleepover by a bullet fired outside. Emanuel says the meeting had been called for months. He didn’t mention the girl’s killing in his opening statements or dozens of other shootings in recent weeks.
The mayor says the solutions to the city’s violence problems are complicated and involve more job opportunities, education and getting guns off city streets.
The FBI, Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy and the head of Chicago Public Schools were all at the meeting.
