Rev. Jesse Jackson of Rainbow PUSH encourages everyone to come out and support the 43rd Annual International Convention this weekend, Saturday June 28 through Wednesday July 2.

The Rainbow PUSH Coalition and Citizenship Fund are hosting the event, “A Quest for Equality and Peace,” which will be held at the Coalition’s National Headquarters during Saturday and Sunday. It will then move to the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers, 301 E. North Water St. for the other days, where guests will participate in workshops and other special events.

This year is worth acknowledging, said Jackson because in 1964 on July 2, the Civil Rights Act was signed into law. Other historic events took place around equality like the Brown V. the Board of Education Supreme Court decision and the Democratic National Convention, but more needs to be done.

“This is a never ending movement, one needed now more than ever, as the flashpoints of economic inequality, poverty and racial injustice continue to manifest themselves,” said Jackson in a letter.

The convention will address those themes and try to answer the question: “Where do we go from here?”

This year’s speakers consist of activists, business leaders and educators.
