Your first thought is: how is it possible for a baby, that cannot walk, make it all the way to the highway?
A 1-year-old girl was luckily found by an alert driving as she crawled along a highway, leading to the arrest of the dad on charges of child cruelty, reckless conduct and obstruction.
The Athens Banner-Herald reports the driver stopped on Highway 72 in Carlton when he saw the infant and immediate alerted authorities. He then put the baby in his car.
The crawling girl’s father, Timothy Pickens, 37, approached Madison County sheriff’s deputies as they were investigating and was arrested after a scuffle.
The girls mother won’t get off easy either, it looks like. She also could be charged with similar crimes for leaving the baby in the care of her siblings — ages 13, 9 and 5 — who the mother says were supposed to be watching the baby.
The family did not answer phone calls from reporters seeking answers to their questions. Can’t say we are surprised.
