Howse Jr., who is currently serving on the Illinois First District Appellate Court. The event was hosted by the law firm of Hoogendoorn & Tal-bot, LLP in their Michigan Ave. offices. Sighted among the many guests: Justice Joy Virginia Cun-ningham, candidate for Justice of the Su-preme Court of Illi-nois; Clerk Dorothy Brown, of the Circuit Court of Cook County and candidate for re-election; Judge Arnette Rhinehar Hubbard; Deidre Baumann, candidate for Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, and other influential members of our town’s political and legal communities.

Celebration of Sisterhood – The Chic-ago Chapter of The Carrousels Inc. – Mae Ruth Carr (nat’l vice prexy), Mildred Porter, Ollie McLemore, Kim Carmen, Linnie Sims, Vivian Durham, Alice Davis and “Teesee”) — hopped aboard an Amtrak train over the weekend to attend the silver (25th) anniversary of our St. Louis “sisters” who regaled us along with other out-of-town members, family and friends at a fabulous celebration at the exclusive “members only” Bellerive Country Club in suburban Creve Coeur, Mo. The Chicago Carrousels “bedded down” at Harrah’s Hotel & Casino in Earth City where a good time was had by us all! Chicago celebrates our 35th year in May!

All in the Family! – I’m the oh-so proud and delighted recipient of a beautiful Christ-mas Card from the current residents of The White House – “From our family to yours, may your holidays shine with the light of the season.” The Rose Garden photo with holiday lights is signed by (President) Barack Obama, (First Lady) Michelle Obama and (First Daughters) Malia and Sasha. (First Dog) Bo is included, of course, with his paw print affixed! How very special!

Condolences — to the bereaved family of Atty. Ronald Samuels, whose funeral was Tuesday at Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church. Samuels was a past president of the Cook County Bar Association, vice president of the National Bar Association and a member of the American Bar, Illinois State Bar, Chicago Bar and American Trial Lawyers Associations. He was also a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and was alumni chapter polemarch from 1993-1995. A grad of Chicago State and John Marshall Law School, Samuels was formerly a partner in the law firm of Washington, Kenner, Hunter and Samuels. Additionally he served on the election committees for Mayor Harold Washington, Cook County Commissioner Bobbie Steele and Appellate Court Justice William Cousins. Samuels is survived by his wife, Marva; four children, Bradley, Veronica Walden (Bill), Ayoka Noelle and Adrienne Gibbs (Eric); two grandchildren, Lena and Dana; and many other relatives. colleagues and friends. Music Maven – Taylor Moore, award-winning motivational speaker, drummer/percussionist, singer, songwriter, producer and recent grad of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign who received her Bache-lor’s Degree in Mus-ic Performance and Production in May, has been performing with several of her “friends” on second and fourth Tuesdays, 7-10 p.m., at Family Den Lounge, 8940 S. Stony Island. Taylor plays and produces several music genres from jazz, gospel, blues, R&B, funk and more.
