The Illinois Department of Insurance wants to hear from consumers who were denied health insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Illinois Department of Insurance wants to hear from consumers who were denied health insurance because of pre-existing medical conditions. The department’s trying to gauge demand for a new federally funded health plan and to find out which medical conditions led to denials. Officials say they will protect private information according to state and federal law. To share a story about a denial, write to the e-mail address: DOI.healthinsurancereform@Illinois.gov. The department has launched a website about the new plan, which is being called the Illinois Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan. Applications will be on the website once enrollment begins, which is expected in August. Estimated premiums for enrollees will be posted in July. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
