Democrat Alexi Giannoulias isn’t keeping up with his Republican opponent for President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat when it comes to fundraising.

CHICAGO (AP) — Democrat Alexi Giannoulias isn’t keeping up with his Republican opponent for President Barack Obama’s old Senate seat when it comes to fundraising. Giannoulias’ campaign reported Thursday that it raised about $900,000 in the quarter that ended June 30. That’s less than half of the $2.3 million that Republican Mark Kirk says he brought in. Giannoulias lagged behind Kirk despite fundraising help from White House officials including Vice President Joe Biden. A Giannoulias spokeswoman says he also has pledged not to take money from corporate PACS or federal lobbyists. Giannoulias collected most of the money in June after dealing with the fallout of the failure of his family’s Chicago bank. Kirk racked up his money amid a controversy over embellishing his military record. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press. (AP Photo/M. Spencer Green, File)
