Farragut Career Academy High School’s Deon Suggs was recently chosen as the school’s Most Admirable Admiral. Suggs shows that with hard work and determination, Farragut’s students can achieve their goals no matter what hardship they need to overcome, school officials said of him. They point out that Suggs has worked hard all throughout his high school career to make sure that he would be accepted to colleges across country. As a freshman, he knew that the road ahead would be a challenge, and that it was up to him to stay on the right path.
He displayed strong leadership skills at Farragut and committed himself to community service. Suggs made sure to support his school by participating in High School Investigation Day as an ambassador. He was also a member of the basketball team and on the Student Development Team. With all of his extra-curricular activities, he still performed well, academically. Suggs took challenging courses while maintaining a 3.3 grade point average.
He earned scholarships to both Robert Morris and Chicago State Universities. Additionally, he has been accepted to Malcolm X College, University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Jackson State. He plans to major in computer engineering.
Suggs credits his extended family for their support and their emphasis on education. He said that, because of their support, he has been able to maintain a positive focus on his schooling.
Not only has he achieved beyond what many in his neighborhood do for themselves, he also strives to be a role model for his little sister. Suggs has remained a strong individual because of his continual drive for pushing himself onward and upward.
He said he will continue to study “anywhere and everywhere,” so that he can realize his dreams and goals.
