Lake Geneva, Wis. offers plenty to do for families looking to get away for the weekend.

Located 75 miles north of Chicago, the nine-mile long southeastern Wisconsin town offers a variety of activities and events for the young and old to enjoy.

Whether it is biking, swimming, parasailing, waterskiing or taking a horseback or carriage ride, visitors can enjoy a full weekend anytime of the year with much more left to do.

Married mother of three, Esther Hardy, said her family visits the “resort” town each year, and she also makes a trip back soon thereafter for a girlfriends getaway.

“The family always stays at Timber Ridge Lodge & Waterpark, and my friends and I stay at one of the resorts for a spa getaway, which is heavenly,” said Hardy, a West Side resident who added the cost for a family weekend usually averages less than $500.

For those with children like Hardy, the petting zoos and farms and adventure parks offer fun times. For those who like to sit back and enjoy the surroundings, fishing, boat rides and hot air balloon rides are available. For the sports adventurists, canoeing and kayaking, and wakeboarding are options.

Trips to the orchards and wineries are available for couples like the Conways who use Lake Geneva for romantic vacations.

“We loved it. We had a one bedroom suite with a full kitchen, and the food in the restaurants inside the hotel was pretty good. I definitely recommend a trip there,” said south suburban LaTonya Conway, a married mother of three.
