EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — A federal judge in East St. Louis has denied bond for a Madison County woman accused of stealing thousands of dollars from Elk Heating and Sheet Metal Inc., in Wood River, where she formerly worked as an office manager. A federal agent said Sunday that 40-year-old Mary Storer was arrested recently and was being held without bond because she has a history of failing to show up in court. Storer is facing federal charges of tax evasion, four counts of failure to collect or pay tax to the Internal Revenue Service, two counts of embezzlement and theft from an employee benefit plan, plus wire fraud. If convicted, she could be sentenced to up to four years and nine months in prison. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
