After yet another successful season, the Jackie Robinson West Little League is preparing for its annual awards banquet. This year’s banquet will be held at the Lexington House, 7717 W. 95th Street, in Hickory Hills on Sept. 20 from noon to 3 p.m. “This is an excellent way to salute the accomplishments of all of our teams,” said Jackie Robinson West Little League president William H. Haley. “Thanks to our players, coaches and volunteers, it was yet another successful season for us.” For the second season in a row, Jackie Robinson West teams dominated in the District 4 tournaments, with four of the five teams winning District 4 titles. In addition, the Jackie Robinson West 10- and 11-year old all-star team captured the Illinois State title for the second time in history before bowing out in the regional tournament. — In addition, registration and tryouts for the Jackie Robinson West Little League Fall baseball season will take place Saturday at Jackie Robinson Park, 10700 S. Morgan beginning at 10 a.m. The fall league will be for players ages eight to ten and will once again feature a combination of instruction and scheduled games. “We felt this is an excellent opportunity for young players to improve their skills in a non-competitive setting,” said Haley. The fall league season will extend until Oct. 10 with a playoff round on Oct. 17 and 19. All games will be played on Friday and Saturday evenings at Jackie Robinson Park. ______ Copyright 2008 Chicago Defender. All rights reserved.
