Families of two Los Angeles models are concerned that there is a serial killer on the loose after the pair were found dead within days of each other, per KTLA.
Thirty-one-year-old model Maleesa Mooney was found dead on Tuesday (September 12) in her luxury apartment in Bunker Hill. Police conducted a welfare check after Mooney stopped answering her family’s calls and texts.
“When a week went by, we just knew something was off,” Bailey Babb, Mooney’s cousin, said. “Her messages weren’t delivering and we knew something was up because we all have a special relationship with Maleesa.”
Though the cause of death remains unclear, police confirmed that they are investigating Mooney’s case as a homicide.
Authorities announced the death of 32-year-old model Nichole “Nikki” Coats just days later. Coats was also found dead in her apartment after she stopped communicating with her family members.
May Stevens, Coats’ aunt, said she made the gruesome discovery on September 10.
“I couldn’t recognize her,” Stevens said. “I believe it was murder, I really do.”
In their last conversation, family members said Coats told them she was going out on a date on September 8. Coats’ case has been deemed a “suspicious” death thus far.
The models’ families said they believe a serial killer may be looking for their next target.
“I feel that there’s a predator loose,” Stevens said.
Coats’ family created a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses.
