19th Annual CHRISTMAS IN THE WARDS: Holiday Toy Give-Away

The Christmas holidays are right around the corner, and there is nothing like seeing the joy and excitement in a child’s eyes when they receive a Christmas present. On THIS SATURDAY, over 500 families and the Phillips High School Championship Football Team will be the recipients of wonderful, free donated toys and the football team will get laptop computers.

This year, Christmas in the Wards will hand out over 1,000 donated toys and gifts to deserving families from of Chicago’s most impoverished neighborhoods on this Saturday, December 19, 2015 from 10:00 am-2:00 pm during the 19th Annual Christmas in the Wards Toy Give-Away, to be held in the gymnasium at OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE, 10001 South Woodlawn Avenue in Chicago.  Media are cordially invited to attend.

The Dec. 19th CITW Press Conference Event Will Award 50 New Laptops to State Football Championship Team, the Chicago Public School’s Great – Phillips High  

This year many sponsors including Walgreens, Comcast, Walmart, Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bulls, SMG, and many construction contractors from the Chicagoland area, have partnered with Christmas in the Wards to ensure that each child that shows up will receive presents for Christmas.  Christmas in the Wards is funded in part by many corporate partners who have helped cover the cost of purchasing the presents.

CONFIRMED ATTENDEES: Adding to the Holiday Spirit of Christmas and helping to give out the Christmas gifts and toys, will be Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, Congressmen Bobby L. Rush(1st), Robin Kelly (2nd), Danny K. Davis (7th); City Treasurer Kurt Summers; State Senator Jacqueline Collins (16th Legislative District), Alderman Michelle Harris (8th Ward), Alderman Carrie Austin (34th Ward), Alderman Pat Dowell (3rd),  Cook County State’s Attorney candidate Kim Foxx; U.S. Senate Candidate Andrea Zopp; Father Michael Pfleger of St. Sabina, special guest Tom Ricketts of the Chicago Cubs – and others!

Over the past 19 years, Christmas in the Wards (CITW), founded by Chicago businessmen Larry Huggins, Riteway-Huggins Construction, and Everett Rand of Midway Wholesalers, has brought smiles, joy, and the true spirit of the holidays to thousands of deserving families. Through giving partnerships, CITW has generated over $1.5 million dollars for needy families, children and community residents in Chicago; this year with over $125,000 in cash and in-kind donations. The CITW organization provides underprivileged children and their families with gifts and supplies, and honors them during the holiday season.
