The nominations for the 2014 Academy Awards were announced this morning and none to our surprise, “12 Years A Slave” eclipsed the many other amazing Black films that were released in 2013 (because there can only be one Black film at the Oscars).
“12 Years A Slave” was nominated for: “Best Picture,” “Film Editing,” ‘Costume Design,” Directing,” “Production Design,” “Adapted Screenplay,” “Best Actor,” Chiwetel Ejiofor for and Lupita Nyong’o “Best Supporting Actress.”
The only other Black film to be nominated was “Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom” for “Original Song” that was produced by Pharrell.
