The 100 Black Men of Chicago held their 10th Annual College Scholarship Fair (CSF) at the UIC Forum on Saturday, October 13. Despite the overcast and rainy day, thousands of students lined up to visit the more than 200 colleges and universitites in attendance. When the Fair opened at 9:00 a.m. lines were around the block to enter and on hand to kick off the event was Mayor Rahm Emanuel. The 100 Black Men of Chicago CSF, unlike regular college fairs, offers prepared students, a number of colleges and universities willing to make instant admission and scholarship decisions. In addition, many community-based and corporate partners are on hand with information designed to help advance the college process, and offer educational workshops.
The mission of the 100 Black Men of Chicago is to improve the quality of life and enhance the educational opportunities of African-American males throughout the Greater Chicago area. The organization does this by providing positive role models for African-American males throughout the Greater Chicago area by pairing them with successful African-American professionals committed to the intellectual development of youth and the economic empowerment of the African-American community based on the following principles: respect for family, spirituality, justice and integrity.
