We are past the July 4 weekend and staring down the barrel of a dwindling Summer. Even still, a city like Chicago never blinks. Why? Because there is still too much fun to get into, whether within the city limits or without.
Some intriguing events beyond the city include the Festival of the Lakes in Hammond, Indiana, the Campfire Music Festival in St. Anne and the Eric Roberson and Chrisette Michele concert in Country Club Hills. And if you want to stay local, you have options, my friend.
Here are some fun activities to get into this weekend:
Campfire Music Festival (July 14-16)
Expect a fun-filled adult “glamping” experience just 45 minutes from Chicago’s Southside. And by “glamping,” we mean “glamorous, luxurious camping” amid this three-day festival with some of the city’s best musicians and DJs.
Chicago Latin Jazz Festival (July 14, 15)
You are advised to bring your lawn chairs and picnics for this free, family-friendly fest at the Humboldt Park Fieldhouse that showcases acclaimed Latin Jazz musicians. This year’s event features De La Buena, Tito Carrillo and Marlon Simon. So act accordingly.
Festival of the Lakes featuring Lil Wayne (July 12-16)
Yes, Lil Wayne will be the Saturday headliner for this annual festival in Hammond, which is five days of pure joy and entertainment. Northwest Indiana represent!
Pier 31 Restaurant (July 14-16)
Pier 31 Restaurant and the adjoining 31st Street Beach will be the central headquarters for old school Hip-hop, R&B, reggae, house and more all summer. So, join the movement and breeze through.
Bronzeville Summer Nights ’23 (July 14)
“The sounds, tastes, and magic” of one of Chicago’s most historic neighborhoods are on display, along with its local businesses. This event is the first of three Bronzeville Summer Nights events, with two more coming on August 11 and September 8.
Double Dutch Fest 2023 (July 15)
This annual Faith in Place event at Rainbow Beach is about connecting to nature and participating in the legendary game of Double Dutch. Family events don’t get much better or more wholesome than this.
Taste of Chicago Pullman Park (July 15)
This gathering is different from the regular Taste of Chicago festival, which is coming in September. But the spirit of that fest remains the same – showcasing the best eats and live entertainment from this gem of a neighborhood.
An Evening With Eric Roberson And Chrisette Michele (July 15)
This concert at the Country Club Hills Amphitheater promises to be a feast for the ears. It would be unfair to call these revered R&B artists “underground” because real heads know that Roberson and Michele have great songs and the goods to bring it.
Hyde Park Handmade Artisan Bazaar (July 16)
Some of the most creative artisans and food makers will sell their goods and wares at The Promontory’s second-floor lounge at this festive market. DJ Sean Alvarez will provide the sounds.
Sundays on State (July 16)
They call this the most iconic block party Chicago has ever seen. We’re confident that Sundays on State, happening this Sunday and on August 13, has a strong argument. The food, music, art, vendors and “people watching” make this block party a must.
