The Walmart truck driver who allegedly fell asleep and slammed into comedian Tracy Morgan’s limo ride, causing critical injuries and death, has been charged with several felonies, the media has reported.
A New Jersey Grand Jury has indicted the truck driver responsible for severely injuring Morgan and mortally wounding his collaborator and friend James McNair during a limo crash in June 2014.
Kevin Roper is facing eight counts of third-degree aggravated assault in addition to one count of first-degree aggravated manslaughter and one count of second-degree vehicular homicide for causing bodily injury to Morgan and three others as well as causing the death of McNair, 62, E! News has reported.
Morgan was very nearly killed and went through multiple months of painful rehabilitation after the June 7 crash on the New Jersey Turnpike caused by Roper. Since Roper team thought he could not possibly get a fair trial in New Jersey, they fought for a Grand Jury hearing, which backfired big time against the driver.
Morgan finally made his first public appearance while being honored at the Emmy Awards and made his celebrated return to “Saturday Night Live,” the place where his fame took off.
The “30 Rock” star also announced that he was kicking off his comedy tour. “I love comedy. I love comedy. I will never stop loving her. I’ll get back to making you laugh. I promise you,” he told the “Today Show” this summer.
