CHICAGO (AP) — The country’s largest ancestry magazine has named Cook County Genealogy Online a best website. Family Tree Magazine calls CookCountyGenealogy.com a "slick site" for finding Chicago-area family members. The county’s genealogy site has 8 million documents, including birth records older than 75 years, marriage records older than 50 years and death records older than 20 years. It’s free to search the site and costs $15 per record to download and print. The Cook County Clerk’s office says the site has sold 63,000 records for nearly $950,000 since its launch in July 2008. And it’s gotten 3.3 million hits. Cook County Clerk David Orr says the site has exceeded expectations and generates profits for the office. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
