IT'S THURSDAY! LET'S DANCE IN DOWNTOWN EVANSTON!
Like to dance? Want to learn how to do some basic steps to the most popular rhythms? Come to IT'S THURSDAY!, the only outdoor dance floor north of downtown Chicago!
Now in its tenth year, It's Thursday! dates are July 16, July 23, July 30, August 6, August 13 & August 20st . These events return to last year's lively and convenient location at the 909 Davis Plaza, Maple Avenue and Church Street, at the Davis el stop. Every Thursday there will be dancing to a live band and instruction with a professional dance teacher. This is a free event and all ages are welcome; www.evmark.org for complete schedule.
Dance instruction is from 6:30-7:15pm and the band plays for your dancing, or listening, pleasure from 7:30-9:00pm. Each week features a different dance style: r&b, samba, oldies, ballroom, Cajun and rock/pop classics. (Complete schedule below).
This year includes an extra dance at the North Shore University Health System's Grand Prix of Cycling, Sunday, July 19th. Roots Rock Society, traditional reggae tossed with some calypso, soul and African zouk music will play from 4:30-7:30 on the entertainment stage located on Sherman Avenue just north of Davis Street. Kick up your heels any which way: no instruction offered at this event.
Jim Parks, well known for his voice-over and TV commercials, returns to host IT'S THURSDAY! with his on-the-spot humor and entertaining personality. His many TV credits include: CTA, Hallmark, Jewel, K-Mart, McDonald's, Sears and Seven-Up.
Evmark, the organization that manages and markets downtown Evanston, presents this series to bring people to downtown Evanston to enjoy its entertainment and many unique restaurants and shops. It's Thursday dance series is always a popular event and we are excited about this summer's musical lineup, said Carolyn Dellutri, Executive Director of Evmark. This is a fun way to spend a Thursday evening after dining in one of our many excellent restaurants, or shopping our downtown.
In addition to Evmark, other sponsors include: Northwestern University, Pioneer Press, Duxler Complete Auto Care, and That Little Mexican Cafe.
