Muntu's 2009 Summer Concert, the Beginning features debut of New
Work By World-renowned choreographer, Abdel R. Salaam
WHO: Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago and world-renowned choreographer, Abdel R. Salaam, Artistic Director & Choreographer of New York based Forces of Nature Dance Theater
WHAT: Muntu's world premiere of "Bride from the South," choreographed by Abdel Salaam, depicts the Nubian presence in ancient Kemet. Graceful, moving and powerful, "Bride from the South, tells the story of the courtship ritual of the women from the south of Kemet.
Other works featured in this concert include:
Mujuboo Rock, a collaborative creation by Muntu's artistic director and the company's young and aspiring choreographers, which originally premiered in December 2008
Tomaka / Liberte, choreographed by Muntu's assistant artistic director Idy Ciss, a dance of freedom from Guinea West Africa, celebrating the Independence of countries such as Guinea, Senegal that have succeeded in their efforts to unify
Walk Of The Djalli, featuring special guest artist Djalli Mori Keba Kouyate on the kora.

More About Abdel R. Salaam
Executive Artistic Director/Choreographer Abdel R Salaam co-founded the Forces of Nature Theater Company in 1981. Along with the founding company members, Forces has produced high quality ballets, conducted dance classes and presented concerts and educational programs in New York City, the United States, and throughout the world for over 25 years.
