Historic Bethel AME Church is proudly in preparation of its upcoming anniversary. Bethel AME will celebrate 157 years of its continuous ministry and service to the city of Chicago by hosting three special events. The events are scheduled take place on June 9, 23 and 24 and will be held near or at the church located at 4444 S. Michigan.

The first event, the Prayer Breakfast, is on Saturday, June 9 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at 4444 S. Michigan.

2019 Most Distinguished Men of Illinois included: Mayor Tyrone Ward, Robbins, IL; Nathaniel L. Ward, community relations representative for the City Colleges of Chicago; and Roy L. Young of RL Young Construction, Inc.

There are several “bright lights” who have given service to the church and community and will be formally honored at the event.

On Saturday, June 23 from 10:30 a.m. – 4 p.m., Bethel AME will host theBlock Party.

Sunday, June 24 at 11 a.m., the anniversary’s culminating event will be the Worship Service. Bethel’s pastor, Reverend Jennifer W. Tinsley, will preside.

Rev. Tinsley stated, “We are especially proud of the impactful spiritual, ethical, political and social change leadership and movements that originated at Bethel.
