It started as another opportunity for the Bears to take control of this up and down season, and finished as yet another opportunity squandered by a football team that simply did not look ready to play. For four quarters the Miami Dolphins dominated the Bears on the way to a 27-14 win and Bears fans are left wondering, what is the identity of this football team? With the first half of the season in the books, Coach Marc Trestman and Jay Cutler, who is set to receive a league high 17.5 million dollars this season, are asking themselves the same question.

“As a team, we have no identity… Every man needs to evaluate himself first.” Said Trestman in his postgame press conference.

The frustration continued to bubble over in the postgame locker-room as number one receiver, Brandon Marshall, sounded off after the loss. “Unacceptable” he shouted at least 16 times. Marshall finished the day with just 48 yards on 6 catches, as the Bears offense delivered another extremely underwhelming performance, netting only 224 yards vs a net of 395 yards for the Dolphins.

It was the usual suspects. The turnover machine, better known as Jay Cutler, contributed his seemingly routine two turnovers, with a badly thrown interception in the second quarter and a killer lost fumble in the fourth. The defense seemed intent on leaving Dolphins receivers wide open as, Ryan Tannehill, completed his first fourteen passes on the way to a career high 123.6 passer rating. With that said, the rumored high powered Bears offense lead by “the quarterback whisperer” Marc Trestman, have the weapons to win on a day where the defense kept the Dolphins under 30 points, or at least we thought they did.

The Bears simply should not have lost this game given all of the talent on the offensive side of the ball.

But for a team still winless on their home field this season, and 3-4 overall, the onus of this loss must fall on head coach, Marc Trestman.“It starts with me.”, has become Trestman’s trademark saying, much in the way Bulls head coach, Tom Thibodeau can be associated with the line “Do your job.” But unlike Thibodeau’s tagline, which is rooted in passion and displays the gritty reputation the Bulls possess on the hardwood, Trestman’s infamous one-liner puts a microscope on just how disappointing this season has been for the Bears on the field.

With losses to the Bills, Packers, and Dolphins at home so far, let down’s have been the theme of the first half of the season. And the road won’t get any easier as they prepare to face Tom Brady and the Patriots on the road in Foxborough, Massachusetts next Sunday before they head into the bye week.
