The long-awaited sequel to Anchorman does not disappoint at all! If you loved the first one, you’ll love Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues even more! Adam McKay, director of Anchorman and Anchorman 2, said had fans not kept asking for a sequel, it would not have happened.
“Fans just watching it at home, on cable and DVD, kept the movie alive,” he said. “We never wanted to do any sequels. People kept asking and instead of the request getting less and less, it got more and more. We felt much of a responsibility to the fans of the movie, not to mess it up but to keep it in the same spirit as the first one.”
Now circa 1980 in the Big Apple, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell) and his wife Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate) have a son, are happily married and in love. They are at least until their veteran newsman boss (a hilarious cameo by Harrison Ford) fires Ron and promotes his co-anchor, his wife, Veronica. From then on, things take a turn for the worst for the perfectly- groomed Burgundy. His next job as a Sea World announcer is short-lived as he’s fired for several hilarious acts of misconduct. Shortly after being fired, as long as he can bring his team on board, Ron accepts a proposal to anchor for the first 24-hour news station, Global News Network (GNN).
The reintroduction of the infamous news team is one people will never forget. Field reporter Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) is now a famous cat photographer who’s reluctant to walk away from his beloved profession. Sportscaster Champ Kind (David Koechner) now owns a restaurant whose specialty is fried bat (the customers don’t know), and Brick Tamland (Steve Carell) is thought to be dead until he shows up for his own funeral. With all of the hilarious chemistry between the news team, you would think they didn’t need to be directed at all during the making of the film. McKay says he would give direction within the scene but as far as their characters, it was more of a discussion.
“These guys are all pros and know what they’re doing. We would talk about the look and kind of the vibe. In the case of Will, I don’t ever give him notes on the character, he is Ron Burgundy.”
GNN is owned by an incredibly rich Australian who added five more million on his hard- earned inheritance (Josh Lawson), and is ran by a sassy, driven, Black woman named Linda (Meagan Good). Linda has major work cut out for Burgundy and he steps up to the plate, as soon as he gets over that a Black female is in charge. Good sizzled as Linda throughout the entire movie. If you ask McKay, he says that Megan Good was just game.
“This lady is so much cooler than Ron Burgundy. We wanted someone that had authority, you know she is the boss,” he said. “She’s gotta be an ass-kicker, sexy, seem smart and Meagan Good had all of that.”
Already funny, once GNN is officially on the air, the movie skyrockets to higher levels of hilarity. Ferrell and his supporting cast evoke side-grabbing laughter while taking you on an emotional rollercoaster the whole film. If an Anchorman 3 is on your mind as soon as you finish the film, remember you may get what you ask for.  McKay says we said no to Anchorman 2 years ago, so we will see. It just depends on the fans and what they want.
Anchorman 2 hit theaters Dec. 18!
