Hakim demonstrates a true sense of compassion in his daily life, as everyone he comes in contact with absolutely feels his concern for others. He is well rounded in his interactions with his peers and staff. He exhibits the qualities essential to success. He is extremely excited about attending Beloit College as he has been offered a full scholarship to attend.  Hakim’s attributes his hard work as the reason he is receiving a full scholarship to college.

He started his high school career at Providence St. Mel high school, but transferred after his freshman year because he wanted to play football at Orr Academy. According to Hakim, “I never played football before, I wanted to be a part of the team.  I must admit that I didn’t know the terminology associated with football, but I had determination, commitment, and a desire to be the best player that I could be”. During his three years on the football team they won three conference titles, 1 Divisional championship, one 2nd place Divisional championship, first ever state playoff appearance, quarterfinals of the city playoffs, first team all city, and a 17 game conference winning streak that will carry into next year. Hakim is the captain of Orr’s football team.

After speaking with Hakim, he didn’t realize how much they had accomplished as a team. They were at the bottom of the Chicago high school football rosters, and they are now considered one of the best teams in Chicago, thanks to the commitment of Hakim Pinklyn.

Lastly, Hakim states “I never underestimated my abilities as a student. I have always done well academically. I know that education is extremely important in today’s world. My coach always told us that “Education is the only guaranteed opportunity to improving one’s quality of living.” The support and love that I have received from attending Orr Academy high school cannot be overstated or properly acknowledge, but I appreciate all of my administrators, teachers, school personnel, and coaches for helping me to develop into the young man I am today. Hakim credits his parents Felicia and Louis Pinklyn for their commitment to his success.  Hakim represents the commitment that he and his parents have inspired in him. Hakim also attributes his success on and off the field to Kevin Jackson his football coach.
