Clorox hosted a school supply pop-up shop Wednesday at Taylor Elementary School on Chicago’s South East Side.

The event provided essential school supplies, like backpacks, notebooks, pencils and more, and items from Clorox, GLAD, and Hidden Valley Ranch free of charge to all recipients. More than 10 volunteers from the community helped distribute more than 8,000 units of school supplies to at least 500 event attendees coming from around the area.

The distribution site, Taylor Elementary, was named a Breakthrough School by the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 2009 and re-designated in 2013. The Breakthrough Schools program, initiated in 2007, identifies, recognizes, and showcases middle level and high schools that serve large numbers of students living in poverty and are high achieving or dramatically improving student achievement.

This year, Clorox is also partnering with DonorsChoose.org to help teachers get the funds they need for classroom projects and supplies through a $100,000 donation and a receipt validation program. Customers earn rewards when they buy Clorox, Hidden Valley, and Glad products and can then choose to donate rewards to DonorsChoose.org. Read more information on the initiative at www.CloroxForSchools.com.
