This star studded luncheon anchors BronzeLens Film Festival Friday events and will take place on Friday, August 26, 2016, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Atlanta’s Marriott Marquis.
Isaacs is famous as the first African American president in the long history of the Motion Picture Academy. She and the Academy came under intense national scrutiny this past winter when not a single African American was nominated for any of the categories for the Academy Awards, better known as the Oscars, despite a plethora of riveting movies and performances from black actors.
In the aftermath of the cultural rubble created during that storm by several high-profile actor boycotts, Isaacs and AMPAS promised to implement tangible changes to ensure more diversity in its voting and nomination processes.
Veteran actress Margaret Avery (The Color Purple, Being Mary Jane), award-winning filmmaker Julie Dash (Daughters of the Dust), producer Nina Yang Bongiovi (Dope, Fruitvale Station) and script supervisor Dawn Gilliam (Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Star Trek Into the Darkness, The Hunger Games) will also receive top honors.
